SRS Colon Vaginoplasty is a gender-affirming surgery technique that uses a small segment of the colon to create the vaginal canal.
Colon Vaginoplasty may be performed using different surgical approaches, including open or laparoscopic techniques, depending on the hospital, surgeon, patient anatomy, and medical assessment.
Unlike skin-graft-based techniques, Colon Vaginoplasty does not rely only on penile or scrotal skin availability. This technique may be considered for patients who have limited genital skin tissue, want greater vaginal depth potential, or require revision surgery after a previous SRS.
Because colon tissue can naturally produce moisture, some patients may experience less dryness compared with skin-graft-based techniques. However, this moisture is not the same as natural lubrication in a cisgender woman’s vagina, and additional lubricant may still be needed for comfort.
Colon Vaginoplasty is considered a more complex surgical technique because it involves both genital reconstruction and abdominal surgery. Suitability must be assessed by an experienced SRS surgeon before confirming the surgical plan.
